Florida, February 3 – The figure of the illustrious poet from Camagüey, Gertrudis Gómez de Avellaneda, was commemorated this Monday at the Center for Pedagogical Documentation and Information (CDIP) in Florida. The event, organized to mark the 153rd anniversary of her death, sought to highlight the enduring relevance and significance of her literary work.
As part of the tribute, a reading of her poem «Al partir» (On Leaving), one of her most celebrated compositions, was performed. Other fundamental works by the author were also promoted, bringing those present closer to the depth and value of her contribution to 21st-century Cuban literature.
School librarians, methodologists, and teachers from educational institutions in the region attended the event. The discussion served as a space for reflection and learning and underscored the importance of disseminating Avellaneda’s work among students and teachers.
The work of Gertrudis Gómez de Avellaneda, with its strength and sensitivity, remains alive in the study and promotion of Cuban literature.
