Reading History Day, an invitation to Floridian readers (+Post)

Florida, December 16 – The «Reading History» program concluded its activities in Florida on December 13. The event, organized by the Cuban Book Institute and the Union of Historians of Cuba (UNHIC), was dedicated to commemorating the 67th anniversary of the Triumph of the Revolution and the centennial of Fidel Castro Ruz’s birth.

The program in this municipality centered around the Local History Workshop «When I Met Fidel,» held at the Municipal Museum. This meeting, which marked the opening of the local activities, featured the sharing of historical accounts related to the Historical Leader of the Revolution.

During this historical event, the books «Cuban Revolution VS Racism,» presented by museologist and researcher Lisney Gómez Ramos, and «A Salvadoran Guerrilla with Cuban Blood,» presented by María Antonia Fonte Alzugaray, President of UNHIC in Florida, were also presented.

During the event, other books were presented by members of the Florida branch of the Cuban Historians Association: Luis Ortiz Chaviano, Gilberto Miralles Loro, and Martha Martínez Duliet.

The importance of the «Reading History» event lies in its successful mission to democratize historical knowledge and strengthen collective memory. By extending its activities to schools, universities, workplaces, cultural centers, and communities, including disadvantaged areas, it has brought academic research to a broad audience.

Furthermore, it emphasized the need for history books, without sacrificing rigor, to be written in accessible and engaging language to capture the interest of young people, thus combating the competition from new technologies and fostering a critical and well-informed reading habit.
