The Pernas: A productive family in the Romárico Cordero cooperative

Florida, Oct. 24—Eugenio Perna González and Yaumel Perna Urtado are now members of the Romárico Cordero Credit and Services Cooperative (CCS) in the municipality of Florida. Their goal is to collect a portion of the milk demanded by the industry and the local population.

Dozens of kilometers from the city center, near the Muñoz Dam, are the modest family home and dairy farms of the father and son, who are responsible for extracting more than 23,000 liters of milk this year, as agreed upon in the contract with the agricultural sector.

A welcome coffee for visitors was the first greeting from Eugenio Perna González, whose farm was highlighted during the recent government and agricultural inspection tour of livestock producers from the Romárico Cordero CCS.

With a hoarse, firm voice, embodied in a cheerful yet aloof tone during press interviews, Perna spoke about the needs that impact their daily work, including handling the dairy under complex conditions. This doesn’t prevent both he and his son from enjoying collective respect for their commitment to fulfilling the dairy plans and other tasks each year.

It certainly wasn’t easy getting to the Perna farm in Romárico Cordero, a family of good people who are tough in their daily work.

The government representatives overcame the dam wall; a muddy path to the very entrance of their parents’ house; and an army of guard dogs. They were all overcome by the journey through the field, recognizing the effort, sacrifice, and perseverance they put into food production.
