Florida, August 9.- Hero of the Republic of Cuba and First Colonel of the Revolutionary Armed Forces, Orlando Cardoso Villavicencio, visited the municipal headquarters of the Association of Combatants of the Cuban Revolution in Florida, where he held a working exchange with the executive leadership and members of this force in the region.The highest municipal authorities of the Party and People’s Power also welcomed him in a friendly atmosphere, during which Cardoso Villavicencio inquired about topics such as the internal functioning of the Association, the fulfillment of its main missions, the service provided to members, and the support it receives from municipal organizations and social actors, among other matters.Pedro Luis Placeres, president of the organization that brings together veterans and new combatants of the Revolution in Florida, informed him of the projections for growth in the ranks by 2025, explained the strategy to sustain activities such as recreational shooting here, and spoke about the results of the children’s and youth competitions «Friends of the Revolutionary Armed Forces» and «My Combatant Family.»The revolutionary example and internationalist career of Hero of the Republic of Cuba and First Colonel Orlando Cardoso Villavicencio in Africa is recognized, above all, for his nearly 11-year prison term in Somalia, where only his steely will was able to overcome hatred, misfortune, and loneliness, before returning to his homeland in 1988.
