The Florida Electric Unit collective faces the challenge of handling vulnerabilities in rural areas.

Florida, Sep. 25 – Residents in the rural communities of La Porfuerza and La Jagua suffer damages in the electric service after the occurrence of breakdowns in the local substations that must guarantee the correct transformation and distribution of energy to the homes of families in these settlements in the south of the municipality of Florida.

The occurrence of this type of breakdowns is much more frequent in rainy periods and their technical attention is increasingly complex for the Basic Electric Unit (UBE) in the territory, due to the current material deficiencies that range from the low availability of transportation to reach the place of the affectations, to the lack of the necessary technological devices to restore the services in the shortest possible time.

The Electric Distribution System in Florida presents a marked degree of deterioration after the lack of resources for its maintenance in the last few years and this makes it even more vulnerable to rainfall, winds and electric discharges that occur during rainy periods.

In addition, the energy consumption demands are increasing and in contrast, the number of transformers to support these overloads is reduced, due to constant breakdowns and the country’s current economic shortages, which limit the ability to guarantee the reparations or replacement of damaged equipment.
