Floridian fighter Calixto Morales Hernandez’s career honored on the anniversary of his birth

Florida, Aug. 16 – 95 years after his birth, the fighter Calixto Morales Hernandez, one of the 82 expeditionaries of the Granma, was remembered in Florida.

In a conversation held at the Municipal Museum, the trajectory of Calixto Morales Hernández, born in Florida on August 14, 1929, was highlighted. The museologists talked about his first meeting with Fidel Castro at the University of Havana, his participation in the revolutionary fight after the coup d’état of March 10, 1952 and his contribution to the fundraising to publish La Historia me Absolverá (History will Absolve Me).

It was also highlighted in this meeting his election as coordinator and chief of action and sabotage of the first cell of the 26th of July Movement constituted in the territory, in August 1955, in a meeting held in the former house of Doctor Miguel Hernandez, today Cándido González Pioneers Palace.

Regarding the trajectory of the teacher and combatant Calixto Morales Hernandez, they explained that he was part of Column 1, Jose Marti led by Fidel, who in 1957 ordered him to come down from the Sierra Maestra to work clandestinely in Santiago de Cuba, rejoining in 1958 to Che Guevara’s troops in the campaign of Las Villas.

After the revolutionary triumph of January 1, 1959, the Floridian Calixto Morales Hernandez occupied various responsibilities, worked with Che Guevara in the Ministry of Industry and was Cuban ambassador to the Seychelles Islands; when he died on August 2, 2013 he resided in the current province of Mayabeque.
