Development of Arthroscopy Surgery in Cuba Recognized
Ciego de Avila, May 12 - Orthopedists from five nations, included Cuba, exchanged in this city on minimum access surgery to correct ailments in the major joints of the human body.
Specialists from France, Switzerland, Austria and Germany traveled to the island to continue the preparation of experts in different Cuban provinces, responsible for caring for people with orthopedic disorders.
The physicians from the European nations recognized the development in Cuba in applying invasive minimum surgery for the welfare of human health, a very expensive service the island does it for free.
During the 11th Symposium on Arthroscopy, held in the central Cuban province of Ciego de Avila, about 430 kilometers east of Havana, several workshops, lectures, clinic sessions and demonstrative surgeries were developed.
Swiss Peter Buess, a member of the German Association of Arthroscopy, recognized the quality of the surgeries carried out by orthopedists from some provinces of the central region, who showed interest for boosting such technique in their respective territories.
On the other hand, Doctor Osvaldo Garcia, coordinator of the event, told Prensa Latina that the arthroscopic surgery is applied in Cuba with very good results, to repair disorders in shoulder, knee, elbow, and hip was included this year.
He stated that the method enables a less intense inflammatory answer, decreases side effects, a more accurate diagnosis and a reduction in hospital cost.
Since 2003, prestigious experts from several countries, mainly the European Union, are traveling to the Caribbean nation in order to advise Cuban doctors almost exclusively on modern technology from developed nations.
