Bern, Dec 4 - Argentine forward Lionel Messi was selected as the best player in the South American WC qualifying round, according to a survey released today by the website of the International Football Federation (FIFA).

The poll conducted among South American coaches after the qualifying round for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil also showed that Argentina is the best team and Colombia is the revelation of the South American qualifiers.
The coaches of Colombia, Argentine Jose Pekerman, and Uruguay, Oscar Tabarez, did not participate in the survey.
Messi got votes from 71.43 percent of respondents, while his team won 57.15 percent of the total vote, and Colombia, 28.57 percent.
Messi scored 10 goals for the Argentine team, qualifying second striker of the qualifiers behind Luis Suarez, who scored 11 goals.
As for head coaches, Chilean team coach Argentine Jorge Sampaoli, ranked first with 57.15 percent of the vote, followed by Argentina's coach, Alejandro Sabella and Colombia's, Jose Pekerman.
