The homage to Jose Marti takes place in the context of celebrations for National Day of the Cuban Revolutionary Armed Forces and it also included wreaths sent by the Councils of State and Ministers, and the Cuban people as it has been a tradition.

Students from the Camilo Cienfuegos Military School in western Pinar del Rio province and cadets from the Jose Marti Military Institute were part of the honor guard at the mausoleum.

Every December 2, Cubans mark the historic landing in eastern Cuba of the Granma boat with a group of revolutionaries led by Fidel Castro. The 1956 event marked the birth of the Rebel Army and later of the Cuban Revolutionary Armed Forces.

The ceremony was attended by the first secretary of the Cuban Communist Party in Santiago, Lazaro Exposito and by officers of the military region.
