Cuban National Baseball Series beginsCuba, Nov, 5th - The 53rd Cuban National Baseball Series was inaugurated this Sunday at Augusto Cesar Sandino stadium, in this city, with a cultural and sports event prior to the match between the teams of Matanzas and Villa Clara.

Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Cuban Vice President, presided over the opening day of the event, along with other political, administrative and sports authorities.

The opening show reflected the development of athletic activity in Cuba from the traditions of the original inhabitants of the Caribbean country to the present, with the participation of students from various educational levels.

The act was particularly dedicated to the Cuban Five remaining in U.S. prisons by preventing violent actions against Cuba engendered by groups based in the U.S. state of Florida.

The ceremony was attended by Rene Gonzalez, Hero of the Republic of Cuba, and one of the five anti-terrorist fighters sentenced in the United States, who is back to his homeland after serving an unjust sentence.
