Havana, Nov. 21.- The representatives of Cuba and Ecuador signed the act that terminates six specific scientific cooperation and technical assistance agreements, existing between the Ministries of Health of both countries since 2009.
The Ecuadorian authorities claimed economic reasons to terminate and not renew those agreements.
The two parties recognized the results achieved in compliance with the agreements in the fields of epidemiology, transplantology, physiatry and rehabilitation, imaging and radiology, ophthalmology and angiology.
Cuba transferred the interest that Ecuadorian Health authorities guarantee the required follow-up to the patients attended by the Cuban Medical Mission.
He also stressed that since 1992, medical cooperation in the South American country had a positive impact on the Ecuadorian population.
Since the beginning of the collaboration to date, some 3,575 Cuban health professionals have provided their services in that country.
In addition, 12 thousand 360 surgical interventions, 3 thousand 548 deliveries and about 100 84 doses of vaccination were applied.
On the other hand, the largest nation in the Antilles provided assistance in emergency situations and disasters in Ecuador: in 1986 due to heavy rains, in 2001 due to a dengue epidemic, and for the care of the victims of the earthquake in ManabÃ, in April 2016.
Finally, our country ratified that the people of Ecuador can always count on the humanist and solidarity vocation of Cuban health professionals.
