Havana, Nov. 14.- King Felipe VI of Spain, and his wife, Letizia, will visit the National Museum of Fine Arts of Cuba today where they will loan a self-portrait of the 18th-century Spanish plastic artist, Francisco de Goya.
The canvas known as late self-portrait, of a 69-year-old Goya, will be exhibited for a month starting this Thursday, after the special presentation for the kings, who make an official visit to the island in the context of the anniversary celebrations 500 of the Cuban capital, highlights Prensa Latina.
Before traveling to the eastern province of Santiago de Cuba, the Spanish monarchs will also go to the Molecular Immunology Center, a closed cycle biotechnology institution that guides their basic research to the treatment of cancer and other autoimmune diseases.
This Wednesday, Felipe VI decorated Eusebio Leal, historian of Havana, with the Grand Cross of the Royal and Distinguished Spanish Order of Carlos III, and toured heritage sites of the historic center of this capital.
The broad agenda of the Spanish Head of State included conversations with Cuban President Miguel DÃaz-Canel, with whom he led the signing of the Agreement for the Framework of the Country Association Cuba-Spain 2019-2022 on International Cooperation for Development.
The monarchs also attended the inauguration of an exhibition of allegorical photographs of the relations between both nations in the Great Theater of Havana Alicia Alonso, which was curated by the agencies Prensa Latina and EFE, and Iberia, and attended An artistic gala in his honor.
This is the first official visit of a Spanish king to Cuba; his predecessor, Juan Carlos I, was in Havana in 1999 to participate in the Ibero-American Summit of that year; and in 2016 he did it as king emeritus for the funeral honors of the historical leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro.
Cuba and Spain maintain important economic, commercial, investment and cooperation links, which place the European country as the third commercial partner of the island.
