Havana, Nov. 14.- With the play Las Rufinas, by Panamanian choreographer Diguar Sapi Guillén, the Ballet of Panama will perform a tribute to the great Cuban teacher Alicia Alonso from this Wednesday at the Balboa theater in the capital city.
The indigenous choreographer said he was proud that Alicia has contributed so much to the growth of dance in Panama and that thanks to her Latin American dancers are recognized.
Likewise, Gloria Barrios, director of the National Ballet of Panama, said that the best way to honor the legacy of the premium ballerina assoluta is with that presentation in the context of the celebrations for the month of the Homeland.
The work is a message of gratitude to all the women who struggle to claim their history; because it is inspired by the Panamanian Rufina Alfaro, who starred in the first cry of independence against the Spanish crown although it is not recognized by official historians.
