New York, Nov. 8 - Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez met with the UN General Secretary, António Guterres, and offered details about the escalation in hostility and the US blockade.
The meeting came a few hours after the General Assembly of the United Nations 187 member states expressed their support for the call to end the economic, commercial and financial siege that Washington has maintained for almost 60 years against the largest of the Antilles, highlights Latin press.
During the meeting, the chancellor presented an overview of the results of the vote, in which Cuba had the vast majority support of the international community.
RodrÃguez and Guterres also addressed issues related to international peace and security, the defense of multilateralism, and current issues in the Latin American and Caribbean region.
Since 1992, the UN General Assembly has demonstrated against the siege imposed by Washington on Cuba for almost six decades, but the United States Government continues to ignore the international community and maintains its hostile policy.
On this occasion, 187 countries supported the claim to end the blockade, two abstentions were registered (Ukraine and Colombia) and only three countries voted against: the United States, Israel and Brazil.
In fact, the US authorities exerted strong pressures, especially among Latin American countries, to modify historical voting patterns, as the Cuban Foreign Minister denounced this week.
To date, the US blockade against the island appears as the most unjust, severe and prolonged unilateral sanctions system applied against any country.
