IOC Promotes Exclusivity of its Games

IOC Promotes Exclusivity of its Games Bern, Nov 4  -  The International Olympic Committee (IOC) began a campaign to promote the exclusivity of its games considering the possible transfer of the date set for the Soccer World Cup 2022.

The uniqueness of the Olympic Games must be protected. The Olympic program should not be adversely affected in any way, stated the IOC during a summit in Lausanne with the presence of its new president, the German Thomas Bach.

Thus, the IOC reaffirmed its opposition to changing the date of the Soccer World Cup Qatar 2022 (from July to January), since it practically would coincide with the Winter Olympics that year.

Delegates to the IOC summit also addressed as hot topic the doping suspensions, which, as proposed, should change from two to four years of sanctions, to ensure the absence of cheating athletes in, at least, one full Olympic cycle.
