Global Renewable Energy Forum to Meet in United Arab EmiratesAbu Dhabi, Jan 12 - The 9th Assembly of the International Renewable Energy Agency (Irena), the world''s leading forum for international cooperation in this field, will take place here from November 11 to 13, according to that entity.

According to the communiqué, heads of state and government, more than 120 ministers and representatives of 160 countries will meet with the mission of contributing to accelerating the deployment of renewable energy in support of the goals of sustainable development and global climate.


The Assembly, says the report, takes place in a context of falling cost of renewable energy, a growing recognition of its socio-economic benefits and greater demands for action to avoid the worst effects of climate change.

Last October, the report of the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change highlighted that only 12 years remain to take decisive action on climate mitigation and called for a rapid and far-reaching energy transformation based on renewable energy.

So, Irena abounds, the deployment of renewable energy must be accelerated to meet the targets of the Paris Agreement.

Renewable energy presents a tremendous economic and social opportunity for industrialized and developing economies alike,' said Irena's Director-General, Mr. Adnan Z. Amin.

The official also considered that the Assembly offers a truly unique platform for strengthening international cooperation in energy transformation.

Among other topics, the meeting will focus its discussions on issues such as parliamentary action to accelerate energy transformation and energy experiences in Africa and Latin America.

A new element anticipated is the presentation of a study called Gender in Energy Transformation, which presents the results on the role of women in this area.

The plenary sessions will include debates on the socio-economic benefits of the energy transition and the changing role of hydropower in the transformation of the sector.

Irena, an intergovernmental organization for the promotion of renewable energy and 160 members, has the fundamental objective of providing advice and facilitating capacity and technology transfer.(Prensa Latina)
