Havana, Apr 3Â -Â Cuban Higher Education Minister Rodolfo Alarcon is stressing the highly qualified nature of professors in Cuba's institutions of higher learning, it was reported here today.
Â
One-fifth of the island's university professors have a doctorate degree and tenure, Juventud Rebelde newspaper reported the minister as saying.
"The hope is to expand the number of such qualified professionals in Cuban classrooms, because the value of a university corresponds to the preparation of its professors, he said.
Around 207,000 students are currently registered in Cuban universities, according to information from the Ministry of Higher Education.
"That is a low figure, compared with preceding courses, which in turn affects the enrollment numbers in extended learning courses," he stated.
The minister also mentioned among higher education priorities the ongoing work to match enrollment plans with territorial needs.
