Awards Day at Cuban Book Fair

Havana, Feb 22 - After ten days of book launches and theoretical meetings at the 23rd International Book Fair, FIL 2014, several recognitions, among those the History National Award, will be granted on Saturday.

Gloria Garcia, a researcher on economic and social history who has made important contributions to Cuban historiography, with a national and international reference work, will posthumously receive the award.
Garcia, who died in November, was a researcher from the Cuban History Institute, a professor at the University of Havana and a member of the Academy of Sciences of Cuba. Jose Abreu will receive the Ramiro Guerra Historic Criticism Award in the Essay category for his book "Apuntes sobre el integrismo en Cuba (1868-1878)" (Notes on Fundamentalism in Cuba) and in Biography, the award will go to "Faustino, dejando jirones de si mismo", by Reinaldo Suarez.
Angela Peña and Miguel Herran will receive the Jose Luciano Franco Historic Criticism Award for their book "La Virgen cubana en Nipe y Barajagua" (The Cuban Virgin in Nipe and Barajagua).
Other activities today will be a panel about new Ecuadorian narrative techniques and a meeting with Haiti Publishing House at the San Carlos de la Cabaña Fortress, the main venue of the event.
The Dulce Maria Loynaz Cultural Center, the Pabellon Cuba cultural center, the ALBA Culture Center in Havana, the National Association of Cuban Writers and Artists, and the headquarters of the Cuban Association of the United Nations, will also held events related to the book fair.
The Havana edition of the book fair will conclude on February 23, when the event will tour the country until March 9.
