Vietnam Produces Anti-Diarrheic Vaccine Hanoi, Feb 19 - Vietnam became the fourth world producer and the second in Southeast Asia of a children's anti-diarrheic vaccine, announced today the Specialized Research Center of the Health Ministry, after years following this objective.

 

The deputy director of the scientific institution, Le Thi Luan, told the media that the experimental required tests have been undergone with successful results to begin producing the so-called Rotavin-M1.

He explained that it is obtained originally obtained from the kidneys cell of Macaca Mulatta, a blue African monkey, who was raised for that purpose under control in Rei Island, in the northern province of Quang Ninh.

Since 1998 the investigation began focus on the creation of a rotavirus to produce the vaccine and the expert assured that its quality is similar to the Belgium Rotarix that was used in Vietnam.

In Vietnam, more than 50 percent of the children population suffer diarrhea annually and is estimated that from 5,000 to 6,000 minors die because of this cause.
