Madrid, Feb 14 - The Spanish Rafael Nadal is preparing to return to the tennis circuit next week at the tournament in Rio de Janeiro, after recovering from the back injury he suffered in late January.
Â
"We have done everything necessary to not repeat it. Let's see what happens," said Nadal shortly before boarding a flight to Brazil.
Nadal will compete in the tournament of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) 500 in Rio de Janeiro, to be held from February 17 to 23.
The number one ranking player traveled to the Brazilian city along with his uncle and coach, Toni Nadal.
After suffering a back injury in the Australia Open final against Swiss Stanislas Wawrinka, Nadal was scheduled to play this week in the Buenos Aires ATP 250, but stomach problems prevented him from training for the Argentine tournament.
As noted a few days ago, it was tough having to give up Buenos Aires, with his only appearance at the tournament in 2005, when he still had no Grand Slam titles.
"What matters is having made a commitment to the tournament some time ago; the idea is to meet that commitment," he added.
Nadal´s next competition is confirmed for the Masters 1000 in Miami, on March 19,
