Successful National Crafts Fair Being Held in Camagüey

Successful National Crafts Fair Being Camagüey, Feb 8. - The First National Crafts Fair, FENART Camagüey, is attracting a large number of visitors who come to see and buy its items at El Casino Cultural Complex in the city of Camagüey. The event which is held in this city in the framework of the 500th anniversary of Santa Maria del Puerto del Principe village will last until February 9th.

Beatriz Ochoa Pupo, a specialist working for the Cuban Fund of Cultural Assets (FCBC), told that Havana stands out among those provinces which are participating, mainly because of the handmade footwear they have brought, a good example of how we can replace imports.

Ochoa Pupo added that products by the Sánchez brothers, from Sancti Spíritus, also stand out for these masterly link craft with the fine arts, while reproducing pieces of art by renowned creators, like Ernesto García Peña and Zaida del Rio.

The National Crafts Fair which is being held in Camagüey is an example of how traditions are recovered using indigenous materials.
