Omara Portuondo to be Presented with Prize in SpainHavana, Feb 8.- Cuban singer Omara Portuondo will be presented with a prize during the 20th La Mar de Musicas 2014 Festival, to be held on July 18-26 in Cartagena, Spain, Cuban media outlets highlighted on Friday.

 

The Festival’s organizing committee explained that the prize responds to “her great interpretive capacity and for managing to convey from stages from around the world, for over 60 years, the essence and soul of Cuban popular music,†the Cubadebate Web site reported on Friday.
 
The diva of the Buena Vista Social Club, who is now in Mexico, expressed her gratitude for the prize and declared that each acknowledgement she receives honors her as a person, but that they also represent an award to her country’s culture.
 
During the Festival, there will be a special evening in which Omara will perform along with the Buena Vista Social Club, with a section of strings of the Symphony Orchestra of the region of Murcia, Marinah (singer of Ojos de Brujo) and Santiago Auseron, in charge of introducing Cuban music in Spain.
