Buena Vista Social Club's Diva Prepares National Tour for 2014

Havana, Oct 29 - Cuban singer Omara Portuondo is preparing her first national tour since she joined the Buena Vista Social Club group in 1996.

 

The also so-called "The bride of Feeling" is celebrating today her 83rd birthday, also immersed in a European tour with that group, ambassador of traditional Cuban music.

The European tour includes performances in the United Kingdom, Finland, Switzerland, Spain, France, Greece, Netherlands, Estonia, and Austria, among other countries where the public could enjoy her art and charisma.

Omara Portuondo began her career in 1945, as a dancer at the Tropicana Cabaret, and seven years later, she became a celebrity with Las D'Aida Quartet.

Among her awards is a Grammy prize in 2009 for her album "Gracias" (Thanks), in the category of Best Contemporary Tropical Album.
